I built this soldering station because soldering frequently is pretty annoying with only two hands at your disposal. Similar devices are sometimes called a ‘third hand’. But mine’s got ventilation on another tentacle to get mercury vapors created during soldering out of my face!

It is made from very nice salvaged meranti wood and hard bluestone, and I mixed wood oil with some polyurethane lacquer to protect the wood.. then I livened the wood up a bit with a mix of bee wax based antique wax and walnut oil. It smells amazing! But I do have an enhanced sense of smell because of ADD meds.

It would be great to add an illuminated magnifier to this setup which would allow me to see and inspect things. Not only great for soldering and tinkering but also for general applications like identifying that bug that is creeping in my garden…
